Directors & Students - Please be sure to read and follow the directions provided below in order to ensure a complete and viable audition.

AUDITION PROCESS & REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Directors must be a current member of PMEA in order for students to audition.
  2. The student and director must have a Submittable account. The application(s) and audition videos can be submitted through the director's account or the student's account. Students, please confirm with your director how he/she would like you to proceed. Directors, most directors have their students submit the application and audition video so that the student is free to complete it at any time during the audition window, but the decision is at your discretion. Please note - automated email notifications from Submittable are sent to the email address on the Submittable account under which the application is submitted; however, directors will receive information about judging, results, etc. directly from the PMEA D1 President.
  3. Complete the application form carefully. Please ensure that the director's name and email address are included in the application, not a private teacher's information.
  4. Record the required music excerpt(s) from start to finish without cuts and/or splices. Students should not include warm-ups in the videos. Students’ hands/body/face must be visible in the video. To obtain the best audio quality, a good microphone as well as high-end computers or digital recording devices for the recording equipment are suggested. ** There can be no use of any device that can be perceived to give aid to a student (i.e. no earphones, airpods, etc.)
  5. Students must upload his/her audition, through his/her Submittable account, no later than 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23, 2021.  Each excerpt must be recorded in a separate video.  **Students need to consider the time that will be required to complete the online application and process/upload the audition video in order to ensure the timely submission.
  6. You may NOT wear any identifying clothing (i.e. school t-shirts, PMEA/NAfME All-East or National shirts) or include any identifying information in the file name or content (i.e. - using your name or school name in the file name or announcing your name at the beginning of the video.
  7. Directors, if you would like your auditionees to be considered for representation, you must submit a director's form with the student('s) ranking to Ben Murray [email protected] and Nathan Hart [email protected], no later than 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23, 2021.  Director Information Form

TRYPO OPEN HOUSE

11/2/2021

Dear Fellow PMEA Members,

On Saturday, November 6th, TRYPO’s Wind Symphony and Percussion Ensemble will hold an Open House. These open rehearsals are designed to welcome any students who may be interested in extending their wind band experience into the weekends.

Wind Symphony and Percussion Ensemble explore a plethora of repertoire with an opportunity to be in residence at Duquesne University and have access to coaching sessions with some of the region’s finest professional musicians.

While I may lead the orchestra for TRYPO, I have always valued my work which began in earnest as a wind band conductor. I started the ISO Symphonic Band (NYC) in Brooklyn, New York, when I was 17 as part of my Eagle Scout project. Now 29 years later, it is the only private wind symphony in the NYC metropolitan area. We count some terrific musicians as our alumni, including conductor Tito Munoz and former Canadian Brass member Chris Coletti.

I know the value of the stellar band programs in the Western PA region. I also know the value of exposure to different musical experiences and their benefit on the school programs these students come from. In the right environment, they become stronger and even more committed to the programs they represent.

Starting with Len Lavelle and continuing with Rob Traugh, the TRYPO Wind Symphony and the Percussion Ensemble, directed by Paul Evans, wish to emulate the model of a civic-minded ensemble meant to make each member stronger. Coming to the Open House doesn’t commit your student to the ensemble right away. It gives them a chance to sit in and play some terrific repertoire with some of greater Pittsburgh’s finest young musicians. This fall’s repertoire includes:
  • Strange Humors - John Mackey
  • Shenandoah - Omar Thomas
  • Postcard from Sequoia - Nicole Piunno
  • Festal Scenes - Yasuhide Ito

So please spread the word, come on down, and see how the Wind Symphony and Percussion Ensemble at TRYPO can benefit your students.

Sincerely,
Brian Worsdale
