Cuban Music and how it can work in your classroom!, presented by Jeff Torchon, Temple University, Conjunto Philadelphia
Cuba’s rich musical tradition, deeply rooted in Spanish and African cultures, is one of the island’s most vital national treasures and seems to transcend the often-rocky social and political landscape. There is also a rich connection between Cuban and American musical history by way of their geographic proximity, cultural sharing, and trade. Exploring this connection is important for music educators in the United States and thus will be the topic of this webinar. Participants will gain a general understanding of specific Cuban Music Styles (Son, Cha-Cha-Chá, Bolero, Danzón), understand the history of the music and its connections to the United States as well as explore musical examples and methods of implementation in the music classroom at all levels.
