PMEA Music Performance Assessments
PMEA MUSIC PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT PROGRAM
The Music Performance Assessment program provides opportunities for students, ensembles, and directors to benefit from the performance assessment experience through our professional association, PMEA.
Participation is open to bands, orchestras and choruses from the elementary, middle and high school levels and to students from grades 3-12 in Solo & Small Ensemble MPA’s. A Jazz Ensemble MPA structure is also available. Directors may participate in any MPA held in any PMEA District.
District 1 has been a leader since the program first known as PMEA Adjudication was launched in 1986 in offering events throughout an MPA season usually scheduled from early March through early May.
Note that District 1 will fund HALF of the Registration Fee for the ensembles of directors participating in their first MPA!
Hosts have considerable flexibility in structuring a large ensemble MPA with numerous options available in addition to the typical mix of ensembles from different schools in either the ‘Traditional’ and ‘Festival’ performance context.
• ‘Internal’ MPA’s where all the participating ensembles are from the host’s school district
• ‘All-Festival’ MPA’s where all ensembles participate in the Festival performance context.
• ‘All Middle School’ MPA’s where the participating ensembles could include students from as young as grade 5 through grade 7 or 9. This MPA could be ‘internal’ with just ensembles from the host’s school district.
• ‘All String Orchestra’ MPA where all the ensembles are elementary, middle and/or high school string orchestras. It could also be structured as all ‘Festival’ or the typical mix of Festival and Traditional.
The current MPA Calendar as well as all guides to participating and hosting, selective music lists, forms and resources supporting Music Performance Assessments may be easily accessed within the MPA area of the PMEA website at http://www.pmea.net/adjudication/
Contact District 1’s MPA Rep, Dr. John Seybert from the Upper St. Clair School District, at [email protected] with questions about any aspect of participating or hosting an MPA.
