Leadership Workshop

4/27/2018

Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser and Dr. John Villella will be in Pittsburgh again this summer. The camp keeps growing and we are honored that they will again join us so that we can offer this opportunity to students in this area.

This window of workshops is specifically timed to get our students living and leading well before band camp starts and ready for the school year. If you have any questions, ask anyone who has had the chance to spend time with these inspiration leaders.

We bring all of our seniors each year, including our orchestra students. Any ensemble student would benefit greatly – it is worth the time and money to give your students this perspective on what they can do by breaking down walls and creating a vision together.

Registration is through Vivace, but let me know if there is anything I can do for you. Please share with anyone who may benefit.

Have a great rest of the year!

Harmonix & Beatz A Cappella Camp

4/17/2018

Picture
Dear Colleagues,
I want to thank all of you for your support of our contemporary a cappella group, Room 100 ,from Peters Township HS,  via Facebook, emails, and in person!   I thought it would be extremely difficult writing a non-existent curriculum for a genre I had little experience teaching or performing.  I won't say it was easy with no problems, but it was totally worth it! In two and a half years, our chorus membership has doubled, Room 100 has received national recognition from Deke Sharon, and our administration has become incredibly supportive of the choral program!

I have decided that I want to give back  to Pittsburgh directors the educational tools that were given to me at many contemporary camps, festivals, and other events that I have attended  throughout the country.  Last year I created a summer day camp called Harmonix & Beatz that gave high school and middle school students a week long contemporary a cappella experience.  The reviews were incredible with acts such as the amazing Ball in the House, Scott Blasey from the Clarks, Liz Berlin from Rusted Root, the pro live-looper Mike Why, and several contemporary a cappella educators from other cities in the US.

This summer is going to be BIGGER AND BETTER!! The camp will run from July 23-27, 2018 and culminate with a concert at the Hard Rock Cafe at Station Square! We have booked the internationally renown Duwende and the high energy women's quartet, GQ, from D.C.!!

In addition to the camp , I am offering, free of charge, a "directors' round table" in the afternoon on Wednesday, July 25th, for all current school directors in Pennsylvania. Here are examples of some questions that we will answer that day:
  • How do I start an a cappella group at my school?
  • How do I teach contemporary a cappella to middle school and high school students?
  • Why should I market my group?
  • How do I market my group?
  • What educational experiences are there for my group?
  • How many students should be in my group?
  • Should my group be extra-curricular or curricular?
  • What equipment or resources do I need?
  • Where can I get sheet music for my group?

The location of the camp will be at In Tune With the Arts Studios in Gibsonia and I hope that many of you will take advantage of this opportunity!!If you have students who may be interested in the camp, please direct them to our website, www.HarmonixandBeatz.com, to register.  You too can find more information about our event at the site.
You are all incredible people that have helped me, over the years, become a better musician and I respect you greatly!!  Thank you so much for your consideration and lets get Pittsburgh on the map as a contemporary a cappella hub!

Best,
Ryan Perrotte
