Application is online - finally!  

Here's the skinny: this summer we'll be holding Teaching Guitar Workshops - in our opinion the most awesome PD experience for school music teachers - in a city near you! We've got the grad credits, we've got the clock hours, we've got books and guitar accessories free with the tuition and we've got clinicians who will knock your socks off. Now we need you!

There will be a workshop in Pittsburgh July 18-22 at North Hills Middle School in Ross Township.  For more information, contact Heidi Kohne.

We'll be training school music teachers from Elementary, Middle School, High School - even University. While you're their you'll learn the skills and proven techniques to start or expand a classroom guitar program. No previous guitar experience necessary.

Would you like a FREE opportunity for your young men to perform with the acclaimed male vocal ensemble Cantus? We invite teachers and students from Western/Central PA to come to IUP on Saturday November 7 for a FREE opportunity to sing both with one-another AND with Cantus!

The men’s choir will learn and perform a South African-Folk Song and Mike Sammes arrangement of For the Fallen under the direction of IUP director of choral studies, Ryan Beeken. The guys will also learn and perform Kurt Bestor’s Prayer of the Children with Cantus!  A FREE pizza dinner will also be provided.

In addition, teachers, students and community members are invited to attend an open rehearsal with Cantus on Friday November 6 in Gorell Recital Hall. More details to come!

Greetings from IUP and Indiana, PA!  For those of you that I have not had the pleasure of meeting, my name is Jason Worzbyt and I am the associate director of bands at IUP.  I wanted to make you and the students in your districts aware of a unique opportunity for music making this fall.

On November 14, 2015, we will host the second annual Junior High Band Invitational at IUP!  This is a one day, sight reading band that features the opportunity to work with a nationally know guest conductor that has lots of experience working with middle school musicians.  This year, we are excited to announce that our guest conductor is Dr. Courtney Snyder, Associate Director of Bands at the University of Michigan.  I know that your students will have an amazing time with her!  As an added benefit for this event, attendance of the home band director is not required.  All students that send in an application with a signature from their home director can participate!  No audition required!

Information about this event, including a schedule and all necessary forms are located at www.iup.edu/music.  While we have been heavily advertising this event on Facebook as well as through letters sent to band directors, I was wondering if you might be able to send this announcement to the teachers in your districts to help us get the word out.  If you are willing and able to do this, would you please be so kind to acknowledge that you received this message?
